A SECURE SYSTEM
Steve and Dani have had many adventures in their 26-year marriage. With one son in college, one living at home and two demanding careers—their lives are never dull. But their busy schedules didn’t stop them from embarking on a new adventure—to build their dream home, complete with a home automation and security system.
Their suburban home was built from the ground up to the couple’s specifications. "We’ve been planning this move for years, and knew exactly what we wanted our home to be." In addition to being intimately involved in the layout of the home, the couple also worked with an integrator to make sure their new home was built with structured wiring, which simplifies installation of their audio and video equipment and home automation controls.
Another one of the couple’s goals was to ensure that their home was secure. "Because I travel a lot, I needed to make sure that Dani was safe when I wasn’t there," says Steve. "When I’m not home, I need some peace of mind that the doors and windows are secure and my family is safe."
Thanks to their home automation system, the only thing Steve, Dani or their sons need to remember on their way out the door is to touch the "Going Out”"button on their AMX keypad. That one button tells the system to turn-off all non-essential lighting, adjust the thermostats for maximum energy efficiency, lock the doors and activate the alarm.
If leaving overnight, a “Vacation Mode” button powers down the entire house, tells the security system to notify Steve and Dani via text message of any disturbance and periodically changes the lights throughout the home to make it appear occupied.
"It feels so comforting to know that as I’m walking out the door, I can turn off everything in my house and arm the security system with a single button. Sometimes I can’t believe it really is this easy. Finally, we have the home of our dreams."
